On August 3rd, on the east coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, a sensational phenomenon occurred. The Krasheninnikov Volcano erupted after 500 years!

Just 4 days before on July 29th, there was an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in the area. That clearly must have triggered it, because earthquakes have a long history of causing other natural disasters such as, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, landslides and avalanches, floods, and even sinkholes.

The earthquake caused extremely large waves in the Pacific Ocean extending to Alaska and Japan. The volcano blasted plumes of gas, ashes, and rocks 3.7 miles high into the atmosphere and extended up to 36 miles. Locals say that the lava started flowing westward and explosions were visible. People who lived in the area were thankfully evacuated and out of harm’s way.
